Pregnancy & Birth Magazine "Doula of the Year 2009" Award

 

For their first ever Doula of the Year Award Pregnancy & Birth Magazine had received over 90 nominations from parents highlighting the postitive contributions doulas had made to their birth and postnatal experiences. On Sunday the 4th of October at the Doula UK fundraising event for their hardship fund, Ricki Lake, of US TV fame and producer of "The Business of Being Born", presented the award to Kicki Hansard, doula and Nurturing Birth trainer.

Award judge Ellie Hughes, Editor of Pregnancy and Birth, said: "It was a moving experience reading all the entries, underlining the importance of the work doulas do." She also commented on how difficult it had been to choose a winner from all the moving birth and postnatal stories.

Another 3 Nurturing Birth trained doulas had been shortlisted.
