Nurturing Birth Certification

What is the Nurturing Birth Certification?

It is the label Nurturing Birth gives those doulas who, after their training, have chosen to go through a rigorous mentoring process with an assessor. This process usually lasts several months. It encourages a doula to reflect on her practice and supports her for her first few clients.

Who can be certified?

Any Nurturing Birth doula who has successfully completed the Nurturing Birth doula course.

How do I know if my doula is certified?

We encourage our doulas to use our certification logo on their website and literature. If you are unsure, please contact us and we will be able to tell you if your doula is certified.

Is it important for a doula to be certified?

Certification means the doula has agreed to be mentored, monitored and assessed by one of her peers. Her work has been discussed with her and her clients have been asked for their thoughts on the care she gave.

Not all doulas choose to undergo a certification process. If your doula hasn't you may wish to ask her reasons (it may be that she is already very experienced). It doesn't necessarily mean she wouldn't be a very good doula.
